Lean Manufacturing
At Muirhead we ensure every process has the least amount of waste at maximum efficiency. The most amount of time spent doing any one-task remains at a minimum to ensure we eliminate overhead costs and increase our operating efficiency.
Lean is about more than just cutting costs in the factory. One crucial insight is that most costs are assigned when a product is designed. We strive to specify efficient and inexpensive materials and processes. Muirhead continuously develops and renews checklists to review product designs.
Muirhead often looks beyond the manufacturing facility to find opportunities for improving overall company cost and performance. At the system engineering level, requirements are reviewed with marketing and customer representatives to eliminate costly requirements. Shared modules may be developed, such as shared mechanical components or electromechanical actuators. Requirements are assigned to the cheapest discipline. For example, Muirheads adjustments are moved into actuation, and measurements away from a sub set component solution to an assembled solution.
